Our recreational programme is open to any and all students from the age of three upwards. Our qualified staff make each class fun and exciting for the students. All students are welcome to participate in our year end recital which takes place at the Newmarket Theatre. This year we will be presenting two shows, one junior and one senior which will help to accommodate our growing family.
In our recreational programme all students will be taught proper technique and will be encouraged to develop their strength and agility. Through this programme teachers screen for exam and competition potential.
At Simcoe we are fairly new to the dance competition scene. We have always focused more on exams then competing. However, over the past four years, we have decided that competition is very beneficial to our students. It allows them additional opportunities to perform as well as to see what other dancers are capable of.
Our competition programme is headed by Miss. Alex who is currently studying dance at York University. Miss. Alex has received numerous awards for her choreography including “Most Entertaining” and “Most Potential as a Choreographer.” This programme is not for everyone. It is an intense programme that challenges the students to go above and beyond what they thought they were capable of.
Anyone invited to join this team must understand that it is a big commitment, but the rewards are worth every ounce of time and effort that both parents and students put into it.
We are proud to be the only studio in our area to offer dance exams in four dance disciplines and with three different dance organizations.
The Royal Academy of Dance provides us with an up to date ballet syllabus to develop a professional dancer. The R.A.D. as it is commonly known is a world wide organization that is recognized in over 100 countries around the world. Students who study R.A.D. ballet receive a wonderful dance education which prepares them for a career in teaching, performing or choreography.
The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing is based in London, England, but again is recognized worldwide. This organization accommodates our tap and modern students, allowing them to prepare for exams which are based on strength, flexibility, performance, musicality and technique. This syllabus is well rounded and develops our dancers to be just that.
We offer Jazz exams through the Canadian Dance Teachers Association, this is not a world wide organization, but it is recognized all across Canada. Exams are a great way for the students to further push themselves to understand the technique and intricacies required of them. Not all students are eligible to participate in the exam programme, so if you are chosen we strongly recommend taking advantage of this opportunity.
